1. You can’t be afraid.
If there is anything I have learned in my 21 years of living, it’s that you can’t be afraid. You can’t be afraid of the “What if’s”, “Maybe’s”, “I don’t know’s” or the unsettling feeling of not knowing what is going to happen next. Some of the greatest and most successful people have even came to a point in their life where they had to risk it all just to get to where they wanted to be. I mean, of course they were afraid but they didn’t give into pressure and fall back. They stood against it and took the chance. You never know what will happen if you don’t try simply because you are afraid. If it goes well, keep plugging along. If it doesn’t go the way you intended, then learn from it and keep going. Don’t be afraid, don’t give up.
2. Don’t stress the small things.
Life will throw all types of crazy, uncomfortable, frustrating and mind-blowing things at you. But at some point you have to realize you can’t carry the weight of the world on your shoulders every day. Like they say, hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Take situations as they come and don’t let the stress take over your brain. Try to look at the postitive and focus on what you can do to ease your uneasy feelings. Whether it be talking to someone, writing things down, or any other creative way to express yourself. If possible, try to set yourself up to be in the best situations so uneeded stress can be avoiding. Shake off the little things and keep your eyes on the prize.
3. A little organization never hurt.
Yeah, we have all been hearing it since we were younger but in reality, especially in college, organization could actually help. Between school work, sports, and working a job on the side, we all need to prioritize our time and put the most important things first. You could put some reminders in your phone or get an agenda book and write things down. And don’t forget time management. Going to class is a little more important than getting drunk the night before, don’t ya think?
4. Take care of YOU.
Like my mother always told me, if you don’t take care of yourself mentally and pyhsically, then you won’t be able to enjoy all the good things life has to offer. You should enjoy thr skin your in because you are wonderfully made without error. It’s completely fine to take some time out of the day to have all to yourself, doing something that soothes and relaxes you. You could also try something new like yoga, reading a good book, working out, or even getting your hair/nails done for the ladies. Whatever it might be, don’t forget about yourself when your going down the list of people you need to look out for. Your mental stability and happiness should be at the top if not first for the things that are most important. Stear away from drama and negative people. Surround yourself with people who make you happy and who will uplift you. Not bring you down.
5. Be Friendly.
I believe you should be nice to everybody because you never know what a simple smile could do for somebody else. Even if it isn’t on public display, a lot of people are going through a hard fought battle, so why add on? Having an open mind is one thing that will attract people to you like crazy. No one wants to be around someone who will constantly judge them. Don’t be afraid to speak up, talk to people and get to know a new face. Friends are an amazing thing to have. And the individuals who become your best friends will kind of be like little guardian angels that watch over you and stear you in the right direction. Cool huh? As human beings, we all just want to be understood. So always try to have a helping hand out, you never know what life-long friendships could spring about. Plus, it’s always nice to have someone to do crazy things with and to bail you out of jail when it gets too wild. Ha.
6. Have FUN.
This one is a no brainer. It goes a little something like this..
-Get your school work out the way
-Make sure everything is else is taken care of personally and your not behind in anything important
-Take a breath..
-DO WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY. Follow your passions, make good memories and create your happy environment. Chill with your friends, go to the bar, learn a new sport, run a marathon, paint a canvas, go to the museum, write a poem, go to the beach. Find what you love and DO IT everytime you get a free second from this oh so wonderful beautiful disaster that we call life.
